Downtown

It is a beautiful day here in the Pacific Northwest, and I'm loving it! It was perfect 'walking around downtown' weather. I grabbed a coffee and went to get my wonderful grandma a birthday present this afternoon, and I found a little something for myself too. There were these really cute little coasters that were on sale and I just couldn't pass them up!

It's not the best picture ever, there are a lot of blues that don't come through that great, but you get the idea. I was very proud of this find, but I only bought four and I should have got all six! I may have to run back in there soon before they're gone!

Now the town where I live has an old town stretch with a lot of really great little stores ranging from gifts and home decor, to bath and hair care products! It also has a lot of cute antique stores. I love walking around and just browsing in them. It's the best way to spend a lazy afternoon! I recommend anyone with time on their hands and access to something like this to just go, even if you can only window shop. There is so much inspiration to be found from the kinds of old classic pieces they carry. And who knows? Maybe you'll find that one thing that you never knew you needed! So happy shopping!

I Want To Be...

Somewhere I can see. Somewhere not completely surrounded by houses or trees. Unfortunately, that is all I can see right now. I like my house, and usually I'm content, but sometimes I miss the wide open expanse that is Idaho. My part of Idaho anyway. I like to see the sunrise and the sunset, and I like valleys of fields surrounded by low rolling hills. Or no hills at all. Here in Southern Oregon though, everything is mountains and trees. It's beautiful, but sometimes it just isn't what I want.

There are a few amazing little valleys around where I live though and if I could, I would buy one in a hearbeat. They are green year round, and covered in fields and pastures. In the fall and winter everything takes on a darker cast, with blues and greens popping out everywhere. And while there are still mountains, they're in the distance, right where I like them. Then the fog settles around them, you can see clouds all across the sky, and it just takes my breath away. That's where I want to be, but even if I can't be there now, maybe someday it will happen. Let's all cross our fingers, shall we?

Time Travel

The sky is filled with clouds again, but that's alright because I am having a great day! I have dinner in the slow cooker (and it smells amazing) and I am drinking a Dutch Bros. coffee. For those of you that don't know, Dutch Bros. is an awesome coffee chain that is local to Southern Oregon, and it's one of the best places to get coffee ever! I foresee it reaching, if not Starbucks, at least maybe Moxie Java status. It just has a fun atmosphere, the employees are friendly and cool, and the drinks are the best! If you happen to live near one, you know what I mean, and if not you should find one and go there anyway! They have so far spread (to my knowledge) through Oregon, and parts of Idaho and Washington. So, message of the day, go find a Dutch Bros!

Alright, enough about my coffee, I want to tell you about my favorite book. Or one of my favorite books. I have so many that I love that it's kind of hard to choose and actual "favorite" but if I did, this one would definitely have a good chance of filling that title. It's The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Some of you may be familiar with the movie adaptation which starred Rachel McAdams, but if you have never read the book then you are being sorely deprived my friend! Now, I did enjoy the movie as far as romantic movies go, but there was so much that was left out that makes the book as amazing as it is. It's one of those books that that I grab as soon as the weather gets cold (or when I'm sick, as was the case yesterday). It's romantic and fantastical all in one. I guess technically it's more sci-fi than fantasy, but the whole feeling the book evokes is magical. It's about fate and love and human nature. And time travel. I bawl every time I read it! It follows the story of Henry DeTamble and Clare Abshire. He is a librarian and she is an artist. He is an involuntary time traveler and Clare must wait for him when he goes where (and when) she cannot follow. It's about how their paths are so intertwined and how much they love one another. Their lives are told in a way that is so special, it makes you believe in soul mates and fate and free will, even as they struggle with these concepts themselves. And while the book is definitely scientific in many aspects, there's a hope that is present that mirrors on religion. There is probably so much more as far as symbolism goes, but that's something I love about it. The more I read it, the more I discover about it.

Another thing I love about it is the way it is written. Audrey Niffenegger's style of writing is so easy to follow, but there is so much information that is given. I love that I can feel so much from it, but it flows so smoothly that I can completely lose myself in it. It makes me want to visit Chicago. It makes me want to be an artist. And it makes me want to learn. It's filled with so many tid-bits about classical music, punk music, art, poetry, books, and even French! I want to learn French because of this book. To me, that is what makes a book more than just "good". If I am inspired after I read it, and I can't stop thinking about it for days, then I know I have found more than just a good read. I have found an amazing book that I will enjoy reading for years and years. Writing is something I enjoy, but to be able to write the way she does is something I don't think I will ever accomplish. It's a goal I would like to have though. I want to write something that makes someone feel the same way I feel after I read this book.

I hope you will take my advice and run to the nearest library or bookstore to get it if you have not read it before. Let me know if you enjoy it as much I as I do! Now if you'll excuse me, my wonderful other half is home and dinner is calling my name. Have a great rest of your day, and enjoy that book!

Rainy Days

Well, the rainy season has officially started here in Southern Oregon, which means my moods will now be a mix between melancholy dreariness and cozy contentment. That sounds like quite the contrast doesn't it? I suppose it's because I love the fall and being able to wear warm, comfy clothes, but I have a strong dislike for rain! I guess since there is nothing I can do about the precipitation (and there will be a lot more of it), I may as well try to be as content with it as I can. One way I plan to do this is by writing. Hence my new blog. Oh what am I thinking, I can't pull off the word hence. It seems pretentious. My goal is just to have somewhere to write down my ideas and thoughts to get me through these rainy days.

I guess I should start by telling you a little bit about myself. I don't know who "you" are or if there even is a "you", but if there is, thank you for stopping by to read this. I am 21 and I am a stay at home wife. Not mom, just wife. If you're thinking that sounds kind of boring, you would be right. At least sometimes. But I try to stay busy by letting my house get as messy as my husband can stand, and then doing a lot of cleaning! Just kidding, I try not to do that. I also volunteer at a daycare in a local gym once a week and as of last week I am taking a pottery class at the community college here in town, so I get some social interaction. My husband Dane is amazing, smart, funny, and the love of my life! We've been married for three years now and they've been great. I also go to church, I am a Christian, and I have a close knit circle of family and friends. When I make the time to stop and think about it, I realize that I really am very lucky and very blessed. I just wish I stopped to think about it more.

If I could change anything it would be to be closer to my immediate family, meaning my parents and siblings, oh and of course my best friend (the sister I chose) Kayla. Unfortunately, they all live 500 miles away in Idaho, and I married an Oregon boy. I miss them a lot, but luckily they all have the means to come and visit me regularly, and I get to go and see them! I usually get to see them all in person several times a year, and now thanks to Skype, I get to see there faces whenever I want. I come from a very big family, I'm the oldest of seven! I have one younger brother (who can be a pain in the rear) but I love him, and five younger sisters who are all like little weird, sassy, different versions of myself. They are all great and I hope that they grow up ok without having me around all the time. Then there are my parents who I also love so much, even though I don't tell them enough. It's amazing how you can spend your whole childhood wanting to move out and get away, but when it finally happens you wish you could be around so much more than you are. And then there is Kayla. Miss Kayla-Pants. My best friend since the day I was born, and there is so much to say about her that I had better save that for another time. I will just say that I love her to pieces and I wish I could still see her every single day like I used to.

I suppose I should call it good for today, Husband just called to say he's heading home from work and the kitchen is still a mess with dinner nowhere in sight! Check back in and I'll tell you (the mysterious "you") more about my family, friends, life, and my random everyday thoughts in days to come. I hope the days treat you well!
