Sunday Currently: Volume 13

Before I get into my "currently," I would like to take a moment to tell you about a very special person in my life. You see, today is the day that we celebrate the day she entered this world, twenty-three years ago. I'm talking about my most absolute, best friend ever, Kayla!

We have literally been friends my whole entire life. Her name is in my baby book as "baby's best friend." We grew up together, having sleep-overs, getting into trouble, and being tomboys. That evolved into boys, break-ups and navigating high school together, before finally walking together on our graduation day. We were each other's maids-of-honor, and we've helped each other through some of the hardest things that, unfortunately, we both had to go through in this life. Through the good times, and bad, we have always been there for one another, and I wouldn't have it any other way!

I miss her like crazy (as much as I miss my parents and sisters), and she's the person who will probably never stop asking me when I'm moving home! I don't know a lot of people who can say that they share this kind of bond with somebody, but let me tell you, it is very special!

So, (since I know you're reading this Kayla!) I hope today is the best birthday ever, and I can't wait until the next time I see you! Have a totally fantastic day!

Reading  Ugh. I may have to get rid of this option too. I still haven't even cracked open Pride and Prejudice, and it's due back to the library in a couple of days! All I've been reading are some blogs, and I'm even way behind on those! What can I say? I guess I've just been being a total slacker in the reading department lately.
Writing  I've been trying to work on getting some drafts done, and I've been writing a lot of emails! I'm trying to grow and expand my blog, and the best way I know how to do that is to connect with other bloggers. So far, it's kind of slow, but I'm optimistic that things will pick up.
Listening  Mat Kearney! Just some nice, easy listening (but still fun), music. Just what I like to listen to on sunny, relaxing weekends!
Thinking  About trying my hand at a sewing project soon. I found a dress that I am absolutely in love with, but there's just a couple of problems with it. 1) It's a designer dress, so out of my price range, and 2) I don't even think it's available anymore, even if I could afford it! So, after looking around at similar patterns, I think I may have found a couple that I could alter a little to make them work. We'll see though, sewing is not really my friend, and I have zero patience for it. But I really want that dress, so that may be enough motivation for me!
Smelling  Fresh, spring air! I can't believe that this gorgeous weather has stuck around as long as it has! I keep expecting a rainstorm to blow through, but so far the sun is holding out. That means my windows are open all the time, and I'm loving it!
Wishing  The diet root beer I wanted in a two liter hadn't been sold out the other night. I had to buy a twelve pack! I usually don't drink much soda, and I don't like to keep it in the house, because I can't stay out of it! I'm feeling a bit bloated, because yesterday I went a little overboard. Maybe I'll just stick to water today.
Hoping  To get a few things done around the house today, to get a head start on my week. It's going to be a busy one, and I'm (of course) wishing I had taken more advantage of all the time I had off last week. Oh well.
Loving  My husband! He works so hard all the time, between school and work and projects around the house. Yesterday he worked in the yard all afternoon, and then had school exam to do too! Today he will be back at it again. I need to always remember to tell him how much I appreciate him, and all that he does!
Wanting  To finish up some yard work today. I'm fighting that never ending battle with weeds, but I think I'm making a dent. Yesterday was spent doing some clearing, and today I'll be back at it, so hopefully I get the area done that I started.
Needing  To buy bandaids! I am all out, and digging out all of those weeds left me with blisters all over my hands! I knew I would regret not buying any the other day, when I saw them at the store.
Feeling  A bit sleepy. I always stay up too late these days, it seems, and never for a good reason either! So I guess I'd better get my coffee now, and get moving so I can shake this grogginess.
Clicking  On Pinterest a lot these last couple of days. I've been finding a lot of really good blogging information, and that keeps me glued to the computer for a while! I've also been browsing a little on someecards. Some of those are so good! It makes me wish I could come up with some of the witty, hilarious things that people put on them.

Happy Sunday everybody!

Linking up with Lauren :)

Friday Doubles

Since it's Friday, I thought, "Why not go for a double post?" Seems like a good idea to me!

You see, most of the clothes that I own are not very new. Or at least not new enough that I could link to the items if someone wanted to buy them. Then I realized that I do own one outfit that is!

I love this skirt. As some of you may remember, I love the store Romy, which is where I bought this dress. It really is one of the best stores around, in my opinion. I love how they carry cute, decent, feminine pieces. And if you live in the Pacific Northwest, odds are there is a location in a mall or shopping center near you!

If not, there's always online.

Anyways, back to that skirt. It was my Easter purchase, and I can't get enough of it!

Tank, JC Penney; Skirt, Romy; Sandals, Target.
(Excuse my pastiness)

Also, love me some JC Penney and Target.

So there you have it, my double feature of the day! Again, I hope you all have a great weekend, and I will see you all around these parts on Sunday!

Happies and Crappies Friday #11

The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up

Happies
  1. I got a little break from work this week, and as much as I love my job, I think it was needed. I was feeling super busy all the time! This week gave me some time to wind down and focus on some stuff around my house instead.
  2. I went and visited with my grandparents on Tuesday afternoon and it was great! Growing up, I would only get to see them once (twice if I was lucky) a year, and I missed them terribly. As much as I would say that I wanted to live near them when I grew up, we all never really imagined that it would happen. I'm so glad that I can go and see them whenever I want now, and it makes not being able to see my parents and siblings that much more bearable!
  3. Today I'm going to get myself an iced latte, go shopping with a gift card, and then hang out with my sister-in-law! That sounds like a pretty great day to me!
  4. Also, can't forget to mention the eighty degree weather we've been having this week! It's been so nice, my trees are leafing out, everything is green, and it smells like summer. Some years it takes almost until July for the weather to start feeling like this, but this spring has been amazing so far!
  5. One more thing, that I almost forgot to mention, I made my goal weight loss for the month! (four days early too!) I'm now only five pounds away from reaching my goal weight! That will put me at the weight I was when I got married, and it's been about four and a half years since I've seen that number. Now I just have to stay focused and keep eating right and working out, and I'm sure I'll see that number in no time.
Yay for sunshine!

Crappies
  1. My dog was running as fast as he could around my yard yesterday (which, for those of you that don't know border collies, that's very fast!), and he ran right into my foot as I was walking by! I have giant bruise on the top of my foot now and it hurts when I move it. This is the second time he's done this to me in the year I've had him, and I am not amused!
  2. My in-laws went out of town on a two week vacation, and even though it was much deserved on their end, and they're keeping in touch by email, I'm missing them! Kind of a weak crappy, but a crappy nonetheless. Two weeks is longer than we usually go without seeing them, but I'm glad they're having a good time on their trip.

Well, I'm always glad for weeks that are more good than bad!
I hope you all have a happy Friday, and a great weekend!

P.S.-Don't forget to enter for your chance to win an LED Tooth Whitening System!

Smile Brilliant: Review+Giveaway!

Okay, it's confession time people. If you're one of my friends, you probably already know this, but if not, let me inform you.

I do not like my teeth!

I've kind of gotten used to them over the years, but they are the one constant thing that I've disliked about myself since I was a little kid. They are crooked, a little chipped, and I have one of those gaps between my front teeth that you don't see very often on adults. Because most people get braces!

And trust me, if they weren't so darn expensive, I'd have them already.  Dane and I always joke about how terrible our children's teeth are going to be (let's just say that he may or may not have had to wear head gear), and I always say that I've got dibs on getting braces first, ha!

So, since I can't have straight teeth, I have to make them look as nice as possible, by making them as white as possible! Nothing is worse than having crooked and yellow teeth!

I am an avid coffee drinker, so even though I always use whitening toothpastes, it's a bit of a challenge to keep my teeth from yellowing. So, imagine how excited I was when I got the opportunity to try out the Smile Brilliant LED System!

Let me just say, this product is awesome! I noticed a difference almost immediately, and by the second time I could tell that it was really working great! Plus, it doesn't take hours and hours. You can pop it in for twenty minutes at a time, and you can use it every single day. It's like professional whitening, but at home!

There's a close up of my (crooked) pearly whites for ya!

So, obviously I love it. And one of you will too, because the lovely people at Smile Brilliant are letting me give one away! You'll get the same set I used, which includes:

One whitening pen
One set of trays (top and bottom)
One LED light

Open to the U.S. and Canada.
It's easy to enter, just look below!

Oh, How Pinteresting Wednesday: Organizing Edition

So, I have this board on Pinterest, called cleaning and organizing. It's the place where pins go to die.

Nah, just kidding! But I rarely seem to look at that board, even though there are a lot of great ideas and tips on there! I've decided it's time for me to delve into it, and get some of the motivation I need to get this house of mine under control.

Being organized has never been my forte. I can tidy like the best of them, and once in a while I will even go through and thoroughly clean and organize certain spots in my home that tend to get really bad. The problem is that I never keep up with it! Before I know it, some time passes, and I fall right back into my old, slob-ish ways.

I assume that if I continue to practice, continue to organize, eventually something will click, and I will be able to maintain it. I'm not sure if I just haven't found the right system, or if it's just my nature (although, I suppose it's mostly my nature) but I hope that some of these pins will be an inspiration to me, and to you too, if you deal with this same problem!

Sunny Afternoons

Spring is here in full force these days, and if it were just a few degrees warmer I would say summer was on its way in! We had a wet spell for a while that really "greened" everything up, and now the sun is out so we can enjoy it!

I have a bit of a break this week from work, which is much more appreciated when I've been working a lot. I have quite a bit planned to get done this week, but it feels much more relaxed because I can do it all at my own pace.

This afternoon I decided to go to the park and get some use out of my camera (like I've said I was going to for weeks now). It was the perfect day for it, even if I could have waited until later when the light would have been better. I was able to get several shots that I was really happy with, and it is so apparent that we are in that sweet spot of spring.

Also, after I took these, I remembered that today is Earth Day, so it seemed only fitting that I share them with you all! I hope you enjoy them, and I hope you all get a chance to enjoy nature today, whatever the weather may be where you are.

Hey, I'm actually wearing real clothes as I write this today!

Gotta love crappy selfies in dirty mirrors! Dress (old) from Romy. Pretty much my favorite store.

Reading  I still haven't started reading Pride and Prejudice yet! I'm being a total slacker on the reading front. Meanwhile, it's due back at the library in just a couple of weeks. I'm not sure that I'm going to make it.
Writing  I haven't done much for writing lately either. I even skipped my Happies and Crappies link up on Friday! I've been so busy lately that I haven't had a lot of time to devote to writing. And any time that I have had has gone towards playing around with graphics editing. You guys, I think I might have a problem!
Listening  To my washing machine run, and to some Vanessa Carlton on Spotify. I love her song "Carousel," from Rabbits on the Run, and I just set it as my ring tone on my new phone! (Yes, we found a loophole! We were able to get new phones for cheap, while still holding onto our renewal option on our plan! Can I get a "what, what!")
Thinking  That even though I have had a blast working these last few weeks, I'm happy to be getting a little break. I will have a chance to get caught up on some cleaning, play with my puppy some more, and go visit my grandparents! It should be a good week.
Smelling  Nothing at the moment. My house smell I guess? Which, honestly, isn't too great at the moment, ha! I should open up all my windows, because it is absolutely gorgeous outside today!
Wishing  Dinner would make itself. But it won't, so I need to go get it done. I have been planning on making burgers for days now, and it just hasn't happened, so I'm off to do that as soon as this is posted!
Hoping  To hold onto this feeling of peace and contentment that I have today. Sundays tend to be good for me, and I wish I could keep this feeling around all week long! It's something I'm definitely going to work on.
Loving  This fantastic weather we've been having. We had our fair share of rain these last few weeks, but the sun is out and it looks like it's here to stay for a while. Our forecast is showing eighty by Wednesday, and I'm so excited! I may even have to start laying out in my yard, and get my tan on.
Wanting  To eat! I'm hungry, so I need to wrap this up.
Needing  Nothing. Today is a good day, and all I need is to soak it up!
Feeling  Well, to summarize, happy, peaceful, fantastic, and hungry! I guess I should remember to save some of how I'm feeling for this last one, ha!
Clicking  On so many things. One thing I loved from earlier in the week was this post by Kristen at All in my Twenties. I loved her take on the whole SAHM struggle. I also just read this article this morning from Hello Giggles. I thought it was such an interesting topic, especially for me, because I feel like I am kind of in the middle of that whole situation right now. I'm married, but I don't have kids, so where does that put me with my friends who are in different stages of life than me? Good food for thought!

I hope you all have a great week, and of course I'm linking up with Lauren

P.S.- What do you all think of the (second) new look?

Creative Juices are Flowing

When I first started this blog, it was because I wanted to get back into writing. I loved to write in school, and I always had this dream of becoming a writer. After graduating though, I let it all go by the wayside, and I didn't write anything for a long, long time. I don't think I realized how much I missed it until I started again, and I've been having so much fun with it!

Since I've gotten more into this whole blogging thing though, I've noticed my interest is being pulled in another direction. Something that I think I would really love to get into.

I'm talking about graphic/blog design! I love things that look pretty, and when I see some people's blogs, I am just so curious about how it was created! Not that I want to copy what anyone else has, but there are just so many cool things you can do to make your space unique.

After poking around a bit, I realized the source of most of this awesomeness is Photoshop (duh). But, you see, I can't really afford Photoshop. If I thought I was going to be able to make money off of using it, then I would invest, but that's not something I see happening anytime soon, if ever.

Luckily, I found something for poor little girls like me, and that would be pixlr. I'm sure a lot of you probably know what I'm talking about, because it is the coolest thing ever. You get the professionalism of Photoshop, with an even better price tag! In case you were wondering, that price tag is free.

Screenshot of some of my graphics editing.

I'm sure that overall, Photoshop probably runs circles around pixlr, especially in it's newer editions, but I'm really loving it anyway! There are a lot of things you can do, and I'm having a blast messing around and editing graphics. I would love to re-design the whole look of my blog to make it more custom, but there's still a lot I don't know yet. I'm definitely working on it though, and I hope to have a new look sooner rather than later.

So, if you're looking for a good place to edit photos, I would definitely recommend you check it out!

On a totally unrelated note, don't try to make boiled eggs in your microwave, or this will happen.

I wish I had read the comments section first....

Oh, How Pinteresting Wednesday: Vacation Edition

Well, as usual, it is way past my bedtime, and I'm still up on the computer! I'm just so excited though, because I'm planning our summer vacation!

Usually we go on a couple of camping trips with family over the summer, and that tends to be about it. Now, don't get me wrong, I love those trips! They tend to be some of my favorite summer time memories. But it's been several years since Dane and I went somewhere just the two of us, where we weren't camping and we got to stay in a hotel. Last summer we were going to go to Portland on a work trip of Dane's, but then he changed jobs so it didn't happen.

This summer I decided that I want to go down into California. I want to go to the beach, and go somewhere I've never been before. After looking around tonight and doing some research, I've decided that Santa Cruz looks like my number one choice! There is a lot to do, including a boardwalk with an amusement park, downtown shopping, and lots and lots of beach! Then there's the fact that I found the sweetest little inn about fifteen minutes away! It is so cool looking, with ocean views, and since it's not in the heart of Santa Cruz, it's within my budget!

I'm not sure if you can completely understand how excited I am! Do you think I used enough exclamation points?!!!!!

Anyway, since I have vacation on the brain, I thought I would share some vacation inspired pins with you all. Do any of you have any summer trips planned yet?

Featuring...

So, I have a special treat for you guys! Today I'm featuring a guest post from my friend Molly, from over at MaeLiveFree. She has such a great blog, and if you haven't already, I totally recommend heading on over and checking it out!

As some of you may know, we are both blogging friends and real life friends. We've known each other for a long time, and competing with one another has always been our thing. Hence, her guest posting for me! She explains it all pretty well though, so I suppose  I'll  just let her take it from here!

|Mashed Potato Moments|

I'm Molly Mae, the voice over at MaeLiveFree, and I'm pretty excited to offer up some grade-A embarrassing story over here today! Lucky for me, and you, it's a love story too. This guest appearance came about in competition (which is actually pretty typical of me and Amy, as are embarrassing stories really). When I recommended choice literature for her to read, and then noticed that she was as unmotivated to read it as I was I said, "Hey, let's say whoever finishes first does a post for the other?" She agreed.

Amy and I go a long way back! We met on my second day of school in Marsing, that little town in Idaho she loves, when we were ten year olds. She was my first best friend in that new school. Then my nemesis, and back and forth it went all the way to graduation. We were pretty similar, both oldest siblings, both loved reading and singing cheesy pop music, both highly opinionated, both royal pains I'm sure as well... We could have been a great pair of friends if we didn't insist on butting heads, and when we were, we were. For some reason though, we couldn't resist a little competition. During the times we got along we had a lot of fun, like at our 8th grade basketball season end party (it's still weird that I ever played basketball) when we were in this weird and apparently hilarious competition of offensive and non-sensical words with Cera and Danielle at a Chinese restaurant. We've also witnessed some embarrassing moments of each other's.  Like me tripping up the stairs at the basketball game we went to at the same party, and tearing my shin up. Or when Amy forgot the words to her solo at one of our Christmas concerts... In the spirit of our history, and her penchants for sharing embarrassing stories here that's what I want to share with you (her awesome readers) today.

On June 7, 2009, I met this random stranger of a guy on facebook (Myspace was losing steam). He sent me a friend request and I accepted just so I could look at his private profile and write him off as a creep...and instead my curiosity was piqued. I thought there was a really good chance that I could love him. Crazy, I know. Especially considering I had just broken off my engagement with my high school sweetheart. Even more so because I had decided that I was really thrilled at the prospect of self-exploration. I told my mom maybe the DAY BEFORE that I would never date someone I met on the internet...then he showed up. It was the worst timing for romance too! My dad had just moved out, and my great grandma was in bad shape with dementia in a nursing home. But for some reason I felt so compelled to know this guy, so I called him out, and messaged him saying that we could be friends as long as he actually wanted to socialize. He thought my initiative was charming and eloquent, so we started talking, via message and text, and I knew I was in trouble! We texted almost non-stop for two days, he stayed up late to talk to me while I stayed up for 64 hours straight in the nursing home leading up to my grandma's passing. Then we decided to meet. He drove 26 miles to pick me up for our first date (I didn't have a car or license at 19!) and when I let him in the door my heart hit the roof. I KNEW that he was my life from that moment on, it was like I'd been hit by a speeding train, and that he had a specific gravitational pull that affected only me. It was the craziest. When we got in his truck he said I smelled delicious and I giggled because my perfume was DKNY Be Delicious.

Fast forward through half a day spent at his apartment just talking like old friends and watching a movie...I meet his roomate, and then his best friend and his girlfriend. The two latter, this fella, and myself decide to go out to his favorite sushi restaurant for dinner. I'm equal parts excited and mortified. I had always wanted to try sushi, but I wasn't the biggest fan of seafood. So off we went in his truck, onto the freeway, when he realized he forgot his wallet. His best friend laughed and remarked on how common that was, and we exited to go back and get it. We arrive at the sushi restaurant and the gentlemen proceed to do the ordering, they know what's good, I trust them. The sushi arrives and we share 4 rolls. Thing to note: I've never REALLY used chopsticks before, so they give me a lesson. I managed to grab a piece of the Spicy Hawaiian roll and bring it to my mouth. Everyone is talking and carrying on, and I'm trying to figure out how to eat it without looking gross or stupid because it's huge! I decide to bite off half of it and the whole thing starts crumbling like a old house being demolished. My mouth is full, and I'm helpless, and suddenly all eyes are on me... I quickly bring my free hand up to cover my mouth and attempt to chew and push the rest into my mouth while they are looking at me: one smugly, one laughing, and one acting like nothing is happening. The latter being my date thank God, he doesn't seem like I've embarrassed him. The good news is that it was delicious, and also that it wasn't the last date like I feared.

We were pretty much inseparable after that first date, I practically lived at his apartment at least half of the week until I did move in, in October. Somewhere in that still-dating-and-not-yet-one-hundred-percent-comfortable stage we were out at KFC eating lunch, those bowls with mashed potatoes, corn, chicken, cheese, and gravy AKA failure piles in a sadness bowl (forgive the strong language, but watch it, do it). We were sitting in a booth, facing each other, and talking about something that I was apparently excited about and I had set my plastic spork down in the bowl to talk with my hands. Are you starting to see the danger here? No, read on...at some point my hand started to come down, hovering somewhere above the spork for a split second (imagine this scene in slow motion, it's best) before coming down and scattering flinging the heck out of mashed potatoes all over me, my face, the table, and probably across the restaurant, but none on my laughing boyfriend. Some guys might have up and run out on a girl then, or grabbed me and got me out of there fast, but he didn't. If I hadn't already known he was the one, I would have learned it then.

As if those two ugly faced, slobby food scenarios weren't bad enough, things like this happen with me all the time...dipping my hair in farina, slopping coffee all over my face and chest, dropping a glob of ketchup on my swaddled nursing newborn, etc. Even today! After spending 10 minutes hand grinding coffee beans for my aeropress coffee, I set out to remove the bottom canister of the hand grinder and dropped the grounds all over the floor. This time my now husband was covered in my shame as well, standing a little too close when it happened.

I'm lucky to have such a soul to witness my awkward encounters though, and reminded of this everyday. He wrote in his wedding vows that it wasn't despite things like me flinging mashed potatoes in my face that he loved me, but because of them. If that's not a victory for the grace challenged like myself, then I don't know what is.

Thanks for having me here! Maybe I'll see you around my corner of the internet sometime. ;)

Oh yeah, check out that number, I'm a runner!

After the race, with my complimentary water bottle.

Well, yesterday was my race! I got under my goal, which was to run it in 36 minutes or less. My time was 35:19! So not too shabby for not really pushing my limits during my training. I had fun, even if it did feel like a step down from the ten mile I ran last year.
Oh, and I was also late getting to the race, in case you were wondering.
Classic Amy! Ha!

Reading  I haven't started reading anything new since I finished Wildwood, but next on my list is Pride and Prejudice, because I don't think I've ever read it. It's one I think I tried reading a couple of times, but I just couldn't get into it. I have it from the library, and I've already renewed it once without ever even picking it up, so I need to get on it! Then, since the movie is coming out, I'm going to re-read The Great Gatsby
Writing  I got several new posts up last week that had been in draft form forever, and now I'm working on a few more! I'm really excited, because I felt like I had started to lose motivation for a while there, but it's nice to have it back. In case you're interested, and you haven't read them already, I posted about Dane's and my love story, and a funny (and embarrassing) story of one of our anniversaries!
Listening  Nothing at the moment. Usually I have some music going, but I guess I just didn't think about it today. Actually, scratch all that, I just turned on Yiruma! If you are in the mood for some beautiful, and relaxing piano music, go for him. Right now I'm listening to his album First Love, and I also threw in the song "Kiss the Rain," off his album From the Yellow Room.
Thinking  That I should put away the laundry on my couch! This load has been totally kicking my rear, but overall things have evened out a bit around here. I finally feel like I got things back together after being gone on my trip!
Smelling  My coffee of course. No surprise there! Best part of my morning usually.
Wishing  Cell phone plans weren't so expensive. We have been up for renewal for quite a while, but we never went and renewed, thinking maybe we would wait until we could upgrade to smart phones. Well, it's been decided that won't happen, for a while anyways, but our timing couldn't be worse! In an attempt to get people switched to smart phones, the phone company has requested our carrier up the prices of non-smart phones. So no good deals for us, if we want to stay with normal cell phones! And hubby's phone is on the fritz.... Blast!
Hoping  To come up with a good workout schedule to stick to, now that my 5k training is over! I have a general idea, and I want to stick with the days on/days off schedule I have already. I just don't want to fall into my usual trap of "taking a break," right after my race, and having that break turn into nine months!
Loving  That we had a fun get together with some of my mom's family last night. We see most of them on a fairly regular basis, but it's been a while since we were all together at once for something. It was one of my cousin's birthdays, and we were invited over for tacos! Mexican food is just about one of my favorites, so it was delicious! And it got me thinking, Cinco de Mayo is only a couple weeks away! That is one holiday I love celebrating, because of all the good food! Sometimes I'll go all out and make a really fancy, full dinner, and once we even had some friends over for it. This year, though, I think I want to go out, because it's been a while since I've gotten to go to my favorite Mexican restaurant.
Wanting  To start getting back into yoga again. My work schedule this week works out well with my gym's class schedule, so I should have no excuse for not going tomorrow! It's been a really long time since I've gone, and I'm ready to change that.
Needing  A shower. I've got third day dirty hair, and I look like a hot mess this morning!
Feeling  Like this weekend was a good one, and it's not even over! I love weekends like this, and I hope we do something fun today, even though we don't have any plans yet.
Clicking  On this video. You've probably seen it, and if you watch the show Nashville, you'll know exactly who they are. These little girls are so talented, and it's no wonder with such talented parents!

Happies and Crappies Friday #10

Wow! Ten weeks of Happies and Crappies! This seems like a lot you guys (even though the link up itself is older), and I'm having so much fun with it. It's nice to know I can look back on the proof that all my weeks are more happy that crappy. Sometimes we just need that extra perspective!

The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up

Happies

  1. I woke up to sunshine this morning, and in my opinion, there is just nothing better than a beautiful, sunny Friday! Gets my weekend started off on the right foot.
  2. People are starting to notice that I've lost weight! It takes a little while after I start noticing before other people do too, but it's such a nice boost to hear it when they do. It gives me some extra motivation!
  3. Like I mentioned on Wednesday, I got a really great opportunity! Now, I will tell you that it is a product review, but I won't tell you what for. I'm super excited about it though, and like I said, it may or may not be coming with my very first giveaway. So keep an eye out for that, because it will be coming soon!
  4. I discovered that I pretty much rock at SuperMario Kart for the Wii! Ok, well maybe I don't completely rock, but I did get the most points out of the group (the group being me, Dane, and a friend of ours). It was a lot of fun, and it was a nice middle-of-the-week breather. It's not very often these days that we hang out with friends during the week, and I would like to change that.
  5. Pear Blossom is tomorrow! (That would be my race) I'm excited, but it starts at seven in the morning, so I have to be up early! It will be good though, and I'm hoping that I get a decent time. (And by decent, I mean I hope I beat the walkers, that's how slow I am!)

Crappies

  1. My hair is needing a trim in a bad way! I have so many split ends, that it's not even funny. But, being the over spender that I am, I spent my extra money for the month already. And yes, I know we're not even quite half way through! So, I will either have to do a trade (which I probably could because my friend does my hair) or I will have to wait until next month. Hello two weeks of buns!
  2. Before my 5k tomorrow (!) I have to go get registered today. To do this, I need a postcard that they mail to me, and I usually get it a few days before registration day. Well, last night it dawned on me that I haven't gotten it yet! I'm waiting to check my mail before I go, and I'm hoping I get it today. This is the fourth year in a row I've ran in one of this festival's races, and there hasn't ever been a problem, so hopefully it isn't too big of a pain.
  3. Right now, I still haven't worked out, or showered, or done anything I needed to this morning, and I still have to take my honey his lunch before I drive several towns over to get my race registration packet. So I probably should go, and wish you all a very happy weekend!

Anniversary Date

*Note: This story contains no pictures. You will thank me later.

As some of you may or may not have noticed, I added Dane's and my love story to my pages. Because I'm sure you were all waiting on pins and needles for it! I actually really enjoy reading about other people's love stories. How they met, what all went down. There are some really sweet ones out there! So, if you're interested in reading about how an Idaho girl fell in love with an Oregon boy, check it out.

In honor of me finally posting that, I wanted to share another special gem with you all! It's the story of the most unforgettable anniversary we've ever had! (And not for the reasons some of you may be thinking).

It was our second wedding anniversary. We decided to stay close to home, and just go out for a romantic dinner. We chose a restaurant a little further away than normal, and a little more expensive too!

Fun fact, it was so expensive that I decided to buy the gift card pack from Costco. Yeah.

I remember really looking forward to it, because even though we went on date nights a lot, I'd heard a lot of good things about the restaurant. You could even buy cigars from them and smoke on the deck off of the lounge! If that is not the epitome of classiness, I just don't know what is.

For the most part, everything was going great! The food was delicious, and since I had gotten a 20% savings on the gift card, we decided to order appetizers, as well as entrees. Big spenders over here, look out! As a result, we decided to opt out of dessert. Fast forward to the end of our meal (where I had finished off ALL of my food), and the staff decided to surprise us! In honor of our anniversary, they gave us a free dessert. It even came with a little card, signed by all of them. It was very sweet!

The dessert was just as good as the rest of the food. It was a delicious peach cobbler, with cinnamon and nutmeg. So, so good. So good, that I didn't stop eating, even though I was so stuffed! This was the start of my problem.

After we finished, we left the restaurant. I remember feeling like I hadn't ate that much food in a long, long time. And that I probably didn't need to eat ever again! We were both in minor food comas, and we just wanted to go home and go to bed. Just a few minutes after we started driving, it happened.

"It" would be the weirdest burp/cough thing in the world, which resulted in my vomiting all over myself!

I was horrified! And covered. My hands, my lap, my purse. All covered in regurgitated peach cobbler.

I'm sure you are wondering what exactly in the world happened, so let me explain. Dane likes to make fun of me and say that I over ate to the point of throwing up, but I don't think that was  know that wasn't the case!

We've all had that moment where you burp after a meal, and a little bit comes up into your throat. Don't act like you've never done it. It is so gross, and super unpleasant when it happens! Body fluids are supposed to stay in their designated spot, darn it!

So, this was just that. Whenever I burped, I felt some of that dessert start to come up with it! In that same split second, before I could do anything to stop it, I coughed! That projected everything that was in my throat, up into my mouth! It happened so fast, that there was no time for me to try to control anything!

You can only imagine how disgusting it was. Here I am, covered in my own vomit, gagging, nothing to clean up with, and the car was filled with the smell! Puke and nutmeg. Obviously it took a while to be able to eat nutmeg again.

Dane was freaking out, and so was I. It was a very miserable 30 minute drive home. It was cold, so I wanted the heater on. Which only pushed the smell right at us (and you would think it couldn't have smelled any worse!), so Dane had the windows rolled down. We were both so miserable!

Needless to say, it did not turn out to be the romantic night I envisioned, but it does make for one heck of a story! Hopefully my misery has made you laugh, because that's the only thing that makes these kinds of stories worth it!

And, for the sake of everyone, always burp with care!

Oh, How Pinteresting Wednesday

Well, Pinterest is on the fritz. <<(insert pouty face here)

It seems that since the look of the website has changed, so has the ease with which you could embed pins onto your blog! A lot of pins won't give you the option to embed at all, and it is turning out to be quite a pain. Luckily I was able to get a few of the ones I wanted, but I wish I could have been able to share them all!

The theme though, if you couldn't tell, are some very yummy, very healthy foods! I can't vouch for them all yet, but I will soon. The brownies are delicious, I can tell you that, and so is the green smoothie! It's the best green smoothie recipe I've found so far, and Dane and I have been having them everyday this week!

I wanted to show you a pin for the zucchini pizza I've been making, but unfortunately it was one of the ones that wouldn't let me. I've really been loving it, and I think I've been making it once a week. It's that good! I like to describe it as summer in my mouth! Since I couldn't show you the pin, here is the link. I got it over at the blog Olive Heart, and I would definitely recommend you all trying it!

The other two recipes I haven't tried yet, but I want to soon. I've been feeling so great, and I know eating healthier is really paying off for me. I don't even feel deprived! I'm not on a "diet," so I never go hungry, and I feel like I'm eating all the time. Between the cleaner food, and my working out, I've lost some weight and gotten more toned, and I'm loving it!

So now, onto those pins, because I'm sure you would just rather see those! Have any of you tried these recipes? What are your favorite healthy go-tos?

One more quick note! I recently had a great opportunity come my way, that I'm so excited to share with you all! It may or may not even come with a giveaway.....

So keep on the look out for it in the near future!

Sunday Currently: Volume 10

One of my all time favorite pictures.  The Butchart Gardens, 2008

Reading  Nothing at the moment. A couple magazines, and a few blog posts. But I did finally finish Wildwood! I'm just going to ignore the fact that it took me over a month. Oh, and my friend Molly finished it before me, so since we were having a little competition, you can expect to see a guest post from her soon!
Writing  Not much. This week has been so busy, I didn't get much done for posts. I have some things that have been in the works for a while, and they just need some finishing touches. Hopefully these next couple of weeks will be better, and I'll start getting some of them posted!
Listening  I've talked about him before, but I've been listening to a lot of Ed Sheeran lately. I just love his album +! I usually listen to it about once a day, or more. I've also been listening to some hymns, both singing and piano covers. Some days, those are just what I need to hear.
Thinking  Too much. I have a bad habit of letting my mind get away from me sometimes, and it's not too great. I'm trying to do better though, and to keep my thoughts on the positive things, not the negative.
Smelling  Nothing. My nose is plugged up again! I guess it's just one of those years. Hopefully this is the last time I get it though, because by the fifth time, I'm over it.
Wishing  That the sun would come out! It's been a bit dreary lately, but I suppose that's what spring is all about. At least everything is turning extra green!
Hoping  That it won't be too rainy next weekend. That's when my 5k race is! It starts at seven in the morning, so that will be a little rough, since it's a half hour's drive away in the first place. I'm excited though, and it should be fun.
Loving  That I finally bought some hydrangea bushes, after several years of saying that I would. I just go slow like that I guess. I was going to plant them this weekend, but I did some research and read that you should plant them after the threat of frost. Well, we are having at least three nights this week with mid to low thirty degree temps! So, I will be waiting at least a couple weeks before putting them in the ground.
Wanting  Like the last time I wrote one of these, I really want to start using my camera more. It's just a little point and shoot, but I would like to learn some of the tweaks and tips you can use to take better photos, instead of just always shooting on auto. I just need to take the time to sit down and do it. I would love to get a better camera someday, but I know it won't happen for a while, so I need to just make do with the one that I have!
Needing  To get back on track with my eating. Last week I had a couple of not so great days, and one really, really bad day that I paid for by being sick all day yesterday! Wow, that was a lot of use of the word "day." Anyway, I feel like I'm learning a lesson in moderation, so hopefully I can just get back on track.
Feeling  Pretty busy, a little stressed, and honestly kind of anxious these days. For those of you that deal with anxiety too, you know what I'm talking about. I'm feeling optimistic though, and I know better than to let it get me down!
Clicking  On several things. I've been on Pinterest a lot lately, and that's been fun! I also loved this post by Dana, over at The Wonder Forest. It really inspires me to get some lawn work/landscaping done! And then there's good old Netflix! We've been loving that season five of Mad Men is finally available. The only bummer is finishing them, and having to wait a whole other year for season six! So, we're trying not to burn through them too quickly.

Linking up this morning with Lauren!

Happies and Crappies Friday #10

The Vintage Modern Wife: Happies and Crappies Link Up

Happies
  1. As much as I miss being with my family in Idaho, it's really nice to be back home! Sometimes it's hard to feel like home is two different places, but I'm happy that I can be happy at both.
  2. I have been working tons this week. I don't think I've had a busier work week since I started at the school! It's been a lot of fun though, and I'm really enjoying it. (plus, it's really nice to hear everyday how appreciated I am, by the students and teachers alike!)
  3. This weekend I will be working on my garden. I'll be planting some hydrangea bushes, and maybe a few other things. Then, Dane and our neighbors are finally going to take care of the eye sore that is our side bed/weed patch next to the driveway! The neighbors have some dogwoods, so they offered to help plant them there as a bit of a privacy barrier. Our yard should be looking fantastic by the end of the weekend!
  4. I tried out a delicious brownie recipe this week, and by tried, I mean I ate way too many! But I'm justifying it to myself because they were "healthy." They were whole wheat, and made with agave syrup instead of sugar. There was a lot of cocoa powder, so it almost had a flourless cake texture going on. I may share the recipe soon, because they were very good!

Crappies
  1. My house is still a hot mess from my being gone! Being so busy has meant that I've only done the bare minimum. I guess house work will be on the list of things to do this weekend as well.
  2. Time management has really been on my mind lately, mostly because I'm always running late and being late to everything! I didn't use to be this way, and I'm not sure why it started, but this last year or so has been terrible. I've started noticing a direct link between my nerves/anxiety and when I'm frantically rushing because I'm running behind. It happens pretty much everyday, and even thinking about it starts to make me feel stressed! I'm so over it, I'm going to have to figure out a plan to stop. No more running late for this girl!

Happy Friday, and I hope you all have a fantastic weekend!

Oh, How Pinteresting Wednesday

Happy Wednesday, everybody! I hope your week is going well. I've been super busy this week, working and trying to play catch up from being gone for Spring break! I'm still not finished, ha! Plus, I don't know how some of you ladies do it. The ones who work full time, and especially the ones with kids. I work a couple of full work days, and it just wipes me out! Then, I never feel like I have time to get anything at home done. But, my busiest days of the week are behind me, and I should be able to get my house in order soon.

I've also been feeling very refreshed lately. I'm really inspired to get my yard fixed up, and my house all organized. Maybe it's the warmer weather, maybe I'm feeling rejuvenated from my trip, or both! But, either way, I'm feeling motivated to be productive. Maybe some of you feel the same way?

Here's to getting all our stuff in order, and becoming more productive this Spring!

Also, here are a few pins I'm loving. I'm feeling in a very "quote-y" mood I guess.
Enjoy, and have a great rest of your work week!
